May 21, 2012

May 21, 2012 - So as you may have noticed as of Saturday afternoon I now have Project Wonderful ads running on my site. As with the google ads let me know if anything particularly objectionable comes up, but overall I'm excited about the advertising opportunity as Project Wonderful allows for a whole new bunch of advertising opportunities and my experience with them has been much better than my experience with google's adwords (though i'm totally cool with the adsense half of google ad's I can't for the life of me figure out how to actually advertise with their adwords half so i just have $100 of free credit just sitting unused in an account with no ability to spend it, if i could spend it (or better yet just convert it to cash and cash out), I'd gladly do so and never use adwords again but their interface is super un-user friendly, at least to me unlike Project Wonderful).

Anyway, I also made a slight variation to the code of most pages of the site so that I now no longer have issues if my blog posts run long (though I now have issues if they run short -- oh well, guess I'll just have to be chatty). And I'll probably be spending the next few weeks making further minor updates to tweak adboxes or other stuff. I'd love to get a comments section, but I have no idea how to write or find a script that looks decent so for now, I'll just stick to the forum (have you tried it? due to administer oversight you don't even need to register or login to post).

Okay, now that that's all out of the way we can talk about today's comic and my largely unsuccessful attempt to draw fighter jets, which is hilarious because when I wrote this I thought it'd be just like drawing X-Wings which was pretty much all I ever did doodling on notebooks in class throughout middle school, but well, that was a long time ago and skill at drawing X-Wings without reference does not seem to translate to an ability to draw fighter jets without reference. At least it was easy to draw.

This comic and the rest this week are all one-off commentary on quasi-abortion related situations that don't really merit full storylines. I intend to follow each major storyline with a week's worth of such strips to highlight situations at least I find humorous and lighten some of the emotional weight larger storylines may feature. I also kinda use these to give me a slight break artistically, generally using minor cheats or slightly lazy techniques (such as saying "screw it" when drawing the planes) to hopefully expand a cushion of strips as I prepare future storylines. Hopefully you enjoy these strips and they're popular as they're a little easier to do and I enjoy a lot of the ideas I came up with.

Panel 4 also features a few hints of future ideas, plotlines, and characters such as the family portrait of Jennifer with her parents and younger sister. I was extremely happy with the design of Jennifer's sister, Theresa, which I basically made up just as I was drawing this comic and will probably be running with it in the future (though this picture was obviously taken some time before the events referenced in this strip and all appearances she ever makes will involve flashbacks, dream sequences, and/or hallucinations).
