May 28, 2012 - Today starts a new storyline, and I couldn't think of a better way to start a storyline than with a panel full of babies followed by an assertion that basically blindly ignores some of the responsibility they involve (unlike the implications of the strip I left you with Friday).

I also get to introduce Jen's obstetrician whom I was very excited about as I wanted a super young character to examine how the number of doctors providing abortions is slowly growing older and diminishing with retirement. For a variety of speculative reasons ranging from legislation that threatens job stability to violent actions taken by protestors, few young doctors have risen up to replace the aging abortion providers. And future comics involving Jennifer and Dr. Bryce will probably explore this idea in greater depth.

Honestly, because of her youth, Jennifer is somewhat of an anomaly in her field, and despite Star's efforts to build a sense of camraderie, Jennifer doesn't trust the clinic's staff to give her an unbiased opinion of her situation. Jennifer's decision is no one's but her own, and it makes sense to me she'd want to talk to a doctor outside her clinic to get a broader perspective.

Dr. Bryce is hardly unbiased however, leaving her with a lot of potential as a character. And just like how Jennifer wanted someone unbiased, Dr. Bryce obviously wanted an easy patient to whom she could brag about all her medical knowledge, so if Dr. Bryce didn't get what she wanted, it's entirely possible Jennifer didn't get what she wanted either.

But this isn't to say any of this is a bad thing. My goal with the comic is always to show different opinions and encourage discussion. So feel free to chime in on the forum.
