August 7, 2012 - So in case it's not obvious by this strip, the theme of this plotline basically centers on partner notification. It'd be great if we lived in a world where men always respected a woman's choice and such a conversation was easy (you could also argue it'd be at least fair if the consequences for unintended pregnancies were equal to men what they are for women), but we do not live in this world (either of them). For better or for worse the burden of choice really does fall on the woman if she gets pregnant, and though I don't necessarily want to advocate Megan's point of view (though she has her reasons which I do feel are legitimate), every woman has the freedom to tell or not to tell their partner any of her emotions (including those related to an unintended pregnancy).

I'd prefer a relationship to maybe be a bit less secretive than Megan's relationship, but she's entitled for her choice. If she thinks this is the best, I support her decision.

And yes, I did make a sideways jab at the hypocritical double standard of abortions are worse than pre-marital sex. If you're not having pre-marital sex, congratulations you've drastically reduced your chances of getting involved in an unintended pregnancy so you have no reason to get involved in the abortion issue. Not everyone is like you, and sometimes they're forced to face the harsh reality that actions have consequences. But for all the advocacy against abortion, I see less and less outrage focused at pre-marital sex, which seems to me to be the more significant issue. Just saying...
