October 3, 2012

October 2, 2012 - There's now less than a week left in the indiegogo fundraiser and it doesn't look like it will make it. Which is fine because it would have been a lot of extra work and I was far more interested in it as a something to talk about than act on. But if you'd still like to contribute, you're more than free to do so and I encourage you to do such.

So I've been somewhat cagey talking about this storyline so far, mainly because I didn't want to reveal this plot point. I'll discuss it a bit more with future comics, but ultimately the decision to abort or not to abort comes down to the woman carrying the pregnancy, not the other people in her life (notice that both her parents and her abusive partner are pressuring her to abort), not the government, and not the abortion providing facility. I've always said I wanted to do plots where women don't necessarily have an abortion, and this is one of the best examples I can think of to emphasize that it is her choice.

Will raising a child be easy for Kristen? Probably not, and it doesn't solve many of the horrible things that have happened to her. But in a world where she's enduring all these difficult circumstances, she does have the power to make this choice on her own (difficult as it is) and make a stand for what she wants to do. As much as others may want her to make a different choice, and it's honestly kinda hard to not think she may be making a mistake, she gets to make the decision about her body from her point of view, regardless of what anyone else thinks of that decision. Everyone else is just on the outside looking in, getting glimpses to help understand her viewpoint but left to do nothing but respect that choice.
