December 23, 2013 - So long as I'm outing Mary, I figure I might as well out Maggie and Gabe in case people hadn't picked up on it already. Probably helps to explain a lot of Mary's interactions with Maggie as well.

I'm not sure how busy this week will be, and I wonder if people may miss blogs, but I figure I'd post this here before I forget. Vanity Fair is running with a story in their January issue questioning the safety of Nuvaring, and if you've been using it yourself or known someone using it, you may want to reconsider your birth control options or possibly contact the lawyers mentioned in the article about joining the pending lawsuit. I will point out a couple oversights in the story, like how the timing couldn't be worse with all the controversy surrounding whether universal health care should include birth control and centering both the article and the lawsuit around a relatively well-off White Republican who unfortunately died, and that the author seems to go out of her way to attack women's health care providers (specifically Planned Parenthood) for no discernably relevant reason when the article only states minimal data collection on this front. I do think the article makes a fair analysis of many of the problems plaguing the FDA and lax policies both advertising and releasing drugs to the market, and it also raises serious concerns about questioning the safety of such products available, which may be worth discussing with a doctor or researching on one's own. I do take major issue with the quote on page 2 that "the number of women affected appeared to be in the thousands, and there were millions of users," as this indicates that as many as 99% of users are not affected by the issues outlined in the article, yet the author seems to be relying on an overly sensitive audience that won't notice this irresponsible hyperbole. That said, concerns over birth control aren't to be taken lightly, and if there are problems with Nuvaring and/or you or someone has experienced problems with it yourself, these issues should not be ignored.
